Delhi Judge Accepts Whatsapp Blue Double Tick As Receipt Proof Of Notice
A resident of Model Town, Delhi, is embroiled in a dispute with his son and daughter-in-law after they created a ruckus at his home. He filed an appeal in court asking for his son and daughter-in-law to be restrained from visiting him.

The court asked the man to send a notice to his son, his daughter-in-law, her parents, and her friend. The man said that serving the notice could take some time, and that it was likely that he would be troubled at his residence before he could serve the notice.

The court then advised him to serve the notice through WhatsApp, which the man did. As soon as he saw the double blue ticks, he took a screenshot of the conversation, and presented it to the court as proof of the notice being served. Senior Civil Judge cum Rent Controller (North) Sidharth Mathur in the Rohini Court, accepted the double blue ticks on a WhatsApp message as reciept of the legal notice.

The Delhi High Court had allowed the use of WhatsApp and emails in judicial proceedings from 4 May. The double blue ticks feature was introduced in November 2014, and shows users when the messages they have sent have been seen by the recipients.

The double blue ticks is one of the most ridiculed features introduced by WhatsApp. For those who want to be cautious about the double blue ticks, and still continue to use WhatsApp, here is how you can disable the double blue ticks feature.
